Gilgamesh mourns for Enkidu as he wanders the wilderness
How can I rest, how can I be at peace?
Gilgamesh fears death and seeks out Utnapishtim, the only man having everlasting life
THIS WAY TO MASHU
I am afraid of death I will go as best I can to find Utnapishtim
After learning Gilgamesh's quest, he allows him to pass the gate, only warning him no one has done what he's going to do
Gilgamesh meets a Man Scorpion who asks him why he has come here, only learning that he's attempting an impossible journey
Although I should go in sorrow and in pain, with sighing and with weeping, still I must go. Open the gate of the mountain.
No man born of woman has done what you have asked, no mortal man has gone into the mountain
Gilgamesh meets Siduri, who questions his journey of immortality and tells him to stay mortal.
He refuses to listen to Siduri and commands her to tell him how to get to Utnapishtim
You will never find that life for which you are looking. When the gods created man they allotted to him death.
How can I be silent, how can I rest, when Enkidu whom I love is dust, and I too shall die and be laid in the earth.
Gilgamesh asks Utnapishtim the secret to immortality.
After crossing the great sea, Gilgamesh meets Utnapishtim
...you who have entered the assembly of the gods, I wish to question you concerning the living and the dead.
There is no permanence. Do we build a house to stand for ever, do we seal a contract to hold for all time?
Gilgamesh asks Utnapishtim once more, how he achieved immortality
Gilgamesh questions that a man of immortality is laying about instead of fighting
Tell me truly, how was it that you came to enter the company of the gods and to possess everlasting life?
I thought I should find you like a hero prepared for battle, but you lie here taking your ease on your back.
I will reveal to you a mystery, I will tell you a secret of the gods.
