Storyboard Text

  • General McDowell! I want to send you and 35,000 troops to capture Richmond Virginia. This should be a quick and easy win for us.
  • The Union army is coming to invade the Confederate Capital. I'm going to send you, Beauregard to defend our capital.
  • Yes Sir!
  • Sounds good sir!
  • Stone wall Jackson!
  • The North wanted to capture the Confederate capital of Richmond Virginia. Lincoln sends General McDowell and 35,000 troops to capture the confederate capital. In the meantime the Confederate army plans to block the Union army by defending the railroad junction.
  • I am going to divide you all so we can surround the enemy forces. Once we have done that we fight whoever is in the middle.
  • On July 17, both sides skirmished along Bull Run at Blackburn’s Ford near the center of Beauregard’s line. McDowell needs 3 more days to revise his plan. While he is revising his plan, time is given for General Johnston to arrive with his army. They arrive at the scene on July 20th.
  • The North thinks they are winning but Gen. Thomas J. Jackson comes with backup. They form a line and they don't budge. He is called "stonewall Jackson" because him and his army didn't move.
  • We win!
  • As the Confederates reinforce their lines, McDowell pauses his attack. Consolidating his own forces, he moves more divisions across Bull Run and occupies Chinn Ridge, west of Henry Hill.
  • Late in the afternoon, Confederate reinforcements under Col. Jubal Early extend the Confederate line and attack the Union right flank on Chinn Ridge. Jackson’s men advance across top of Henry Hill and push back the Federal infantry, capturing some of the guns.
  • Confederates successfully defended the the capital of Richmond Virginia, and win!
  • Nice!
