Storyboard Text

  • My name is Octavia Julius Tiberius and I'm a 16 year old patrician, to be wedded in a week. I am the eldest out of my 3 sisters and named after my father Julius. My mother died after giving birth to my youngest sister Aurora so I took on the responsibility to raise my sisters while our father rules ancient Rome.
  •  In ancient Rome people usually ate various fruits and bread. Because the bread was often stale they dipped it in wine to soften it. After breakfast everyone in the family would seperate to their individual activities, until they met again for dinner.
  • After Breakfast the upperclass women would go to the roman baths to socialise. There were three baths that all lived outside, they went from a cold bath, to a moderate temperatured bath, to a hot bath. Women that weren't as fortunate would either work or act as a house wife instead.
  • In ancient Rome boys were the only people who were educated, the only women educated were the upper class women that could afford a tutor to teach them at home. They were taught geography, music, philosophy, literature, mythology, and geometry. But young men were mainly taught how to speak publicly.
  • Romans are busy all day and dinner time is often the only time families can socialise together. They have a grand dinner with meat, fish, vegetables, eggs, cheese, grains (also as bread) and legumes. Meat included animals like dormice (an expensive delicacy), hare, snails and boar. After they stuffed themselves with food they get a servant to hold a bucket while they vomit.
  • The age of marriage for girls could be as young as 12, and for boys, as young as 14. On the eve of the females wedding, a girl would be expected to put away childish things – including her toys. Soon after being married they were expected to have many kids. They often had 5 or 6 because most children died young.
