- Tim the ostler
- One kiss my bonny sweetheart, I'm after the prize tonight, but I shall be back by yellow gold before morning light
- Red coat troops
- The Highwayman comes riding to the old inn door wearing a french cocked hat and a red claret coat. Riding over the cobbles and towards the inn.
- Bess
- Tim the ostler listens to the highwayman talking to the landlord's daughter called Bess. The highwayman tells Bess he will be back by mornings light and Tim gets jealous because he also loves her.
- Last Breath
- The red coat troop come marching to the old inn because King George sent them here.
- Wind, moon and seas
- One of the red coat troop members tie Bess in her room and there is a dead man who told Bess to find and watch for him by moonlight.
- Look for me by moonlight, watch for me by moonlight, I'll come to three by moonlight, though hell should bar the way
- Bess takes her last breath before she dies after the dead man left.
- *Inhales**Exhales*
- "When the wind is by the trees, when the moon is ghastly galleon tossed up into the cloudy seas, when the road is a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor a highwayman comes riding."
