"Rebellious subjects, enemies to peace, Profaners of this neighbour-stained steel -- Will they not hear? What, ho!"(Act 1 scene 1 lines 76-78).
In the beginning of Act 1 we are introduced to two characters named Gregory and Sampson who complain about being coal carriers.
As two new characters, named Abraham and Balthasar, approach Gregory and Sampson, Sampson bites his thumb toward them which is like sticking up your middle finger.
Though the two opposing houses start a fight, symbolizing violence and hatred, the prince stops them from doing so as he symbolizes peace and wants to keep the peace in his kingdom.
