This is the point in the story where Ender had a choice on whether he was going to live the hard life of a soldier in the I.F. up in Battle School or stay home with the people he loves.

This is the point in the story where Ender finally got a letter from his home from Valentine. Except that they made her write it, and Ender realized that the teachers at the Battle School really are the enemies, and he decided that he wasn't going to play the teachers game.
Chapter 15: Speaker for the Dead
Next, Ender moves to a new planet to train to be a general and actually believes he might be able to do once he meets and gets trained by Mazor Rackham.
Ender is in his testing room for his final test before he faces the Buggers. Little does he know, he is going to face them sooner than expected.
Finally, Ender settles down to write the book "Speaker for the Dead" so he can repent for the sins he has committed when he destroyed the Bugger worlds.
