  • Hi there I'm John
  • Today we will be talking about Charle's Law, Charles law is an ideal gas law that states that if a given quantity of gas in held at a constant pressure, it volume is directly proportional to the absolute temperature.
  • And I'm marie
  • How do gas laws apply to hot air ballons?
  • Hot air is lighter than cool air because it has less mass per unit of volume. To keep the balloon up, they have a burner that heats the air inside the baloon using propane.
  • Charle’s law says that the volume of a gas is directly related to the temperature of that gas, similarly when gas is heated like aburner in a hot air balloon, the gas expands. so when the air inside the balloon expands, it becomes less dense andprovide the lift for the hot air balloon.
  • Jacquer charles, a French inventor, scientist and mathematician created the concept that gases expand when they are heated in 1787
  • He conducted an experiment that involved 5 balloons that had the same volume with different gases.
  • He concluded that the volume of gas at constant pressure increases with the absolute temperature of the gas.
  • Charles raised the temperature, to 80 degrees, Celsius and noticed they all increased in volume by the same amount.
  • Thank you guys for listening!
