  • In 2007, a new student at a high school in Berwick Nova Scotia was bullied for wearing a pink polo shirt to school on his first day.
  • Slide: 2
  • That's not right Travis. We should do something.
  • I agree, David.
  • Travis Price and David Shepherd were grade 12 students who took notice to the bullying.

  • 50 shirts should be enough for everyone at school.
  • Perfect. Tomorrow we'll give one to each student for them to wear.
  • They came up with an idea to combat the bullying barrier at their school. So, they bought 50 pink shirts to bring to school the next day.

  • At school the next day, Travis and David handed out the pink shirts they bought to the students at their school.

  • I now announce the second Thursday of every September to be "Stand Up Against Bullying Day."
  • In recognition of the two boys, Nova Scotia Premier Rodney MacDonald declared "Stand Up Against Bulling Day" would take place on the second Thursday of every September. The other provinces of Canada followed MacDonald's lead in breaking the barrier and proclaimed anti-bullying and pink shirt days to occur yearly. Since then, many countries have marked specific days for raising awareness for bullying.
