Finally reached home! Time to eat my takeaway!
Ok??
Where am I??
YOU NEED TO EAT THE SANDWICH!!!!
Mishka is at a local restaurant, ordering a triple cheese sandwich! Gosh, she really does love that stuff. And maybe a drink to go with the sandwich??
Now the sandwich is in my stomach!
Mishka has just reached home, and she is about to eat her cheese sandwich. Shall we have a look at what happens to the cheese sandwich??
Broken down food travels firstly to the small intestine, and then to the large.
Mishka starts to eat the sandwich. The saliva in her mouth starts to break down the sandwich, so that it is easier to be swallowed. The saliva contains the enzyme, amylase. The food then travels down the oesophagus and into her stomach.
WHY... DOESN'T... IT... COME.. OUT!I'm gonna be here a while...
Mishka's stomach makes hydrochloric acid to kill any bacteria. The sandwich's protein gets absorbed and any leftovers go into the small intestine. Here, Mishka's liver creates bile to help break up fats, and her pancreas makes 3 enzymes: protease (breaks up proteins), carbohydrase (breaks up carbohydrates) and lipase (breaks up fats).
The sandwich leftovers are digested and all the good stuff (nutrients) are absorbed into the blood stream. Then it is sent to the large intestine, where all the water is absorbed, and all you have left is poo!
