if we make something that is lighter than the air, it would be easier to fly!
later attempts at flight.
a glider must fly long distances to send someone far away! the wings are like a bird but meant for gliding!
The Wright Flyer.
In 400 BC, in china, the kite was invented, causing people to think about flying. For centuries, people tried to fly with wings attached to their arms, although it was a failure. Following these failures, Da Vinci, realizing something else was needed, came up with a idea: the ornithopter. in 1783, the Montgolfiers invented the very first balloon, creating the first manned aircraft and first lighter than air flight. They also used smoke to make it lighter than air to fly it. however, it would take a century and 2 decades to create the first airplane.
The Great War.
Otto Lithenel realized a glider had to travel long distances, so he studied the flight of birds in his book about aviation. He flew more than 2500 times in his gliders before being killed in a glider accident. Realizing something was needed to travel further, Samuel Langley knew engines and fuel were needed to fly, thus resulting in the first unmanned aircraft.
The Interwar years
Following the research made by Otto Lilienthel, Wilbur and Orville Wright went to Kitty Hawk to study how effecteint their craft was, including twisting the wings, using a wing tunnel, and studying engine power, the Wright Flyer finally flew with all its glory in Kitty Hawk, piloted by its creators for 850 meters in only about a min. This resulted in the first aircraft company
WW2
realizing that aircraft could be miltarized following their use by the Italians in 1912, the Entente and the Central powers both used aircraft for fighting, bombing, and reconissance. This also included the hot air balloon miliatrized into the German Zepplin.
following the advancements in technologly, airplanes were used in even more variaties to cope with technology. This era also ended the age of the biplane. More powerful engines, bombs, firepower, and armor were all on many airplanes. One plane that had them all was the 4 engine Boeing B-17. This also was the birth of the jet engine.
