  • In 1789, there were three estates First estate didn't need to pay taxes and had many benefits. These were high ranking church officials. Second estate didn't have to pay taxes either and had some benefits. These included nobles. The Third estate is the commoners they had no benefits and were heavily taxed.
  • Radicals Take Over

  • In 1789, France helped the Americans in the American civil war. This caused some dept. The king Louis (XVII) was spending money on building massive palaces like the Versailles. The queen (Marie-Antoinette) was also spending money on herself, buying lavish clothing and expensive jewelry. This lead to adding more tax on the poor.
  • A New Constitution
  • Finally we are FREE!!
  • In 1789, the National Assembly was created. The National Assembly was created to solve France's financial crisis. King Luis didn't actually want a written constitution. His plan to use military force agents the National Assembly spread. This caused the third estate to storm the Bastille. This day was known as Frances independence day.
  • Rise of Napoleon
  • In 1793, the radicals take over. The previous king was beheaded on January 21, 1793. The previous queen was also beheaded on October 16, 1793. The new government was named "The Convention".  This new government was very bloody. Many people were beheaded for small problems.
  • In 1795, There were many effects of the new committee. The biggest affect was the end of all slavery in France. This was a massive step for the people of France. Another major affect the committee had was the end of dept imprisonment. This freed many people who should not have been imprisoned.
  • In 1799, Napoleon starts making a name for himself as both a military leader and as a National Leader. Napoleon leaves behind something very important, his code. His quote states "Equality of all citizens - religious toleration." This gave his people and generations to come basic human right.
