- Prometheus was the creator of all living creatures. His brotherEpimetheus wanted to create something aslo so he decided to let him distribute the qualities that each of hiscreatures would need in order to survive. Epimetheus was excited, heproceeded thoughtfully fromcreature to creature until he had distributed all of the qualities that each would needin order to survive upon the earth.

- Epimethius was satisfied with his decisions until he saw man. He, alone, of all Prometheus’ creatures, hadreceived no gifts. Epimetheus was devistated, Prometheus most loved man. He resolvedto do whatever was necessary to insure man’s survival, regardlessof the risk to himself.

- Prometheus went toHephaestus and Athena for help.Silently and secretly, theytaught Prometheus their knowledge of arts and crafts so that he, in turn, could impartthis knowledge to humankind.HephaestusgavePrometheus fire so that mortals could use their new knowledge.

- Prometheus taught the humansto understand their environment, to calculate, to read and to write, to buildhouses and sailing ships, and to tame wild animals for food, labor, and protection. They started worshiping gods and giving sacrifices. Promethesus was worried they would give the best to the gods so he made an ox stomach with meat and white fat with bones.

- The wily Titan called upon greatZeus, Lord of Olympus, to choose which portion should be for the eternal gods andwhich portion for humankind. Zeus chose thewhite fat with bones for he had been tricked.“Wily schemer and deceiver! You have given man good meat to eat, but from now on he will have to eat it raw. I forbid man the use of fire!” but Prometheus stole fire back from the gods again.

- Prometheus was punished and tortured for his actions until Zeus would no longer be in power.
- This myth was to show how the creation of animals and humans and how they got their traits. It shoes how humans got their knowledge and why we are able to do the things we do.
