Storyboard Description

Hamlet is experiencing may strong emotions and it is greatly impacting his mental health.

Storyboard Text

  • Shock
  • Murder?(Act I, Scene 5, Line 27)
  • Revenge
  • O, my prophetic soul! My uncle!(Act I, Scene 5, Line 42)...O most pernicious woman!(Act I, Scene 5, Line 106)
  • Confusion
  • To be or not to be: that is the question, whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of trouble.(Act 3, Scene 1, Lines 57-60)
  • Hamlet is shocked when the ghost of his father tells him that Claudius poisoned him. This shock turns into anger and Hamlet begins to face his internal battles with his emotions.
  • Depression
  • Hamlet is very angry and he swears he will avenge his father's death by getting revenge on Claudius. Although the ghost says to leave his mother to karma, Hamlet decides to get revenge on her as well.
  • Self-deprecating
  • Hamlet doesn't know if he can trust the ghost. This causes inner conflict for him because he wants to act but cannot be sure of anything. His confusion eats at him and he is searching for validation that he is doing the right thing,
  • Anger + Trust
  • Hamlet is extremely depressed and he explains that the beautiful world around him looks dull and ugly. We get an insight into Hamlet's mental state and it is clear he is facing many internal conflicts with his emotions.

  • Hamlet is extremely angry with himself because of his inability to act quickly. He feels that he should be more determined and he labels himself a coward.
  • Am I a coward? (Act II, Line 579)
  • Hamlet's hatred for his mother also creates inner conflict for him. He sees all women as evil because of the example his mother has set for him. This creates trust issues for him with Ophelia and when she lies to him it only further his hatred for women.
