- Today I will be teaching you about the Kansas Nebraska act
- The Kansas Nebraska act all started when the southern states had blocked all attempts to allow settlement of the Louisiana territory. Senator Douglas thought he might have cooperation from the South if he proposed letting people decide the fate of slavery. It was called the popular sovereignty and that means that people who lived in the territories would have the right to decide whether slavery should exist in their states. The act satisficed the south at least temporarily, after a while the act passed, repealing the Missouri Compromise. The provision in the Missouri Compromise that set boundaries for slavery was no longer valid, the act also opened the new territories of Kansas and Nebraska for settlement.

- They took the captives to the nearby Marais de Cygnes River and shot them there. Five of them were killed, five were wounded and one successfully escaped after pretending to be dead. John Browns responded to the situation by building a two-story fort near where the massacre site occurred and settled the land. And once again Kansas was in the National news
