- Since America couldn't levy taxes, farmers had to practice subsistence farming which was when all of the livestock & crops farmers raised was only for their families, & met to their needs.
- To pay their taxes, farmers had to sell things that they owned. They lost everything, including their farmland.
- Everything I owned is gone!
- SOLD
- The government was still in finacial ruin & was still able to print tons of money. So they printed tons of it to finance their exppenses. But because the printed money didn't have any finacial backing not only we're we facing financial ruin for our central government but the Masachusetts government did as well.
- Not only that but British moneylenders that were banging down the doors of American clients to collect loans.
- So what farmer, Daniel Shay decided to do was round up 5,000 farmers & merchants. They went to go rebel against the Massechusetts government.
- The government couldn't send in military forces because it was forbidden by the Articles of Confederation, so that left Shay & his army of merchants & farmers to deal with state milita.
