Soon after the Youngs moved in Mama suffered from a heart attack and had died, The family came together to morne the death of Mama.
5 Years later Walter file for divorce. There relationship went down hill shortly after Mama had died including the fact that Ruth went through with the abortion due to too much stress. Ruth had taken over the house leaving Walter nothing.
After the divorce Walter took himself to drinking every night. Washing away his sorrows Walter understands the way he had treated everyone was disrespectful and he deserved his fate.
Walter decides to leave the bar and run to the house and apologize to Ruth and the way he had treated her. Walter didn't look and ran across the street where a car had hit him.
Everyone was given the bad news. Baneatha and Asagai had come down from Nigeria to pay their respects. Ruth was given the last words of Walter hearing him say that he loves her.
3 Years later everyone has grown for the better. Travis was on his way to college. Beneatha had returned to America as an doctor while her and Asagai has also gotten married. Ruth felt proud of everyone she has grown the most; emotionally she had learned how to take care for herself and love life as it is.
