- The order of operations are rules that tell you the way to solve a problem.Parentheses - The first step is to solve all the operations within the parentheses. Exponents - Solve the exponent part of the problem Multiplication and division - Moving from left to right, multiply and/or divide (whichever comes first)Addition and subtraction - lastly, moving from left to right, add and/or subtract whichever comes first.Remember: Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally
