  • This is my story as Dichi!
  • I'm Dichi! This is my story as the leader of the Chipko Movement.
  • I have a mother, two brothers, a sister and an uncle who I consider as my second father!
  • I find peace in my pine tree.
  • I love the smooth bark of my pine tree. It is my best friend! Its leaves are so soft and it gives me immense joy!
  • Look at her talking to her tree! No wonder she's friendless. I bet even the tree doesn't like her!
  • Heyy! Look at the village weirdo!!
  • One day when I was sitting under my pine tree I saw something!
  • Oh no! These woodcutters are back again! I thought the panchayat had got rid of them for good.
  • Yea! This was his oh so special forest which had the best wood! He even had the nerve to threaten to fire us if we didn't cut down the whole thing! Come on! We should report to him that we found it.
  • This was the forest that boss was talking about right?
  • My child! Slow down! Are you okay? Stop crying! Who came in the woods?
  • The villagers do not like me very much. My father died the date I was born so the villagers consider me as a curse. I don't have many friends but I love my family very much and so does my family. Me, my sister and my mother weave baskets while my brothers transport goods.
  • I reached the village and told everyone about the woodcutters!
  • What is this insolent cursed child saying? The woodcutters were gone years ago. Get this child a doctor, she's hallucinating!
  • Everyone calm down! I am thinking of a plan. Those woodcutters are many but they are not happy. They have been threatened to get fired. Maybe we could convince them to not cut trees and work jobs in our village! There is less employment here.
  • My uncle had gifted me 4 seeds of pine trees. Unfortunately 3 of them did not survive but one did. I usually try to avoid the comments of the village kids and make mother nature my friend!
  • My family was very worried!
  • I believe you Dichi! But what can we five people do. If they are going to cut down the whole forest then there are going to be hundreds of woodcutters!
  • Mother is right! Even if we try to stop them, why would they listen to us? Not even the Sarpanch is listening to us!
  • My heart almost leaped out with fear when I saw the woodcutters! Their big axes and frowns on their faces meant they were up to no good! I had to warn everyone in the village. They were going to wipe down our forest!
  • The next day the woodcutters came but we were ready!
  • Are- Are you sure boss? There- there are many other trees here!
  • Yes boss!!
  • Nobody listened to me! They all thought I was crazy, that I was out of my mind! Only my family believed me. It was up to us to stop them from cutting down our forest!
  • Everyone! Everyone! Two woodcutters came and they said that they will cut down the whole forest for their boss! We have to stop them!
  • I had come up with a plan but it wasn't foolproof. I did not know if it was going to work! The villagers were not even listening to what I said! We were on our own.
  • Dichi! The birds nests are on those trees! Will they hurt my sparrow too?!
  • The woodcutters had unfortunately chosen my tree first! And the worst part was that my own Chachu was with the woodcutters. Would I be able to stop them?
  • What a majestic pine tree! We will start with this. Come on men!
