  • Sargon of Akkad was a ruthless leader who ruled an army near the Mediterranean Sea. He used advanced military tactics like tight formations to conquer Mesopotamia and create the Akkadian Empire. Sargon would destroy the walls of conquered cities in order to have control over them. He left a lasting legacy, having established the world's very first empire.

  • Centuries after the fall of the Akkadian Empire, King Hammurabi formed and ruled the Babylonian Empire. Here he is, sitting in a room and talking to his advisor.
  • I have created my own code of laws that I have based on the word of the gods. These laws shall be followed by everyone in my empire.

  • The Babylonian Empire, or Babylonia, thrived under Hammurabi's rule. The capital city was near the Euphrates River, so it became a primary source of trade. People of all status and gender, including slaves, had many fair rights. To this day, Hammurabi's empire is a notable achievement that has made history.
