Storyboard Text

  • The Silk Road and the Indian Ocean trade network were super beneficial to everyone involved. Traders along the Silk Road made large profits, as well as traders on the Indian Ocean. Cultural ideas, religion and language were also traded along these trade routes.
  • These trade routes also brought diseases. When traveling far distances, people were exposed to diseases they hadn't been exposed to before. This often caused sickness because of the lack of immunity they had to foreign diseases.
  • Trade with the French in North America was a very peaceful experience. The Indigenous Americans and the French formed political and trade alliances and worked together to accumulate wealth.
  • In South America, when the Spanish came in contact with the Indigenous Americans, it caused economic systems to crash and death due to Spanish diseases. The Indigenous Americans were forced to work long, unbearably hot days. All of this eventually led to the death of a lot of Indigenous Americans.
  • Through these trade networks, many cities in Africa grew to be very wealthy. This wealth only expanded to other countries thanks to the trade routes.
  • Yeah Jonah, and slave trade was still around at this point, but it wasn't as common.
  • Well June, this has been fun discussing, and I see the downsides of trade you were talking about now.
