- Max helps Freak get down his airplane from the tree. He then invites him to his house and they become friends.
- Climax
- Max hears his dad is up for parole and his grandparents are fighting if they should get a gun for protection or not.
- Falling Action
- Max's dad kidnaps him and takes him outside so he can take Max and use him as bait so he can leave the state and not be caught by the police.
- Resolution
- Max's dad strangles Loretta after she tries to save Max from the basement. Max tells his dad that he knows his dad killed his mom because he strangled her. Max's dad Killer Kane refuses to believe Max remembers anything.
- The doctor tells Max that sadly Freak died. Max blames the doctor but she says that Freak had known he was going to die all along. Max is so sad that his only friend is now gone.
- The book ends with Max reading Freaks diary and writing a book about their friendship and life called Freak the Mighty. Max is still sad but happy that Freak was in his life.
