- It was finally the day for the ceremony of twelve. He sat in order with the rest of the year twelves, and watched 17, his best friend asher get called. The elder gave a long speech about his past and how he stood out from the rest of their class. next, to his left sat Fiona, number 18 who they called up and gave the same speech they gave every twelve. He sat patiently, but eager to find out his assignment.

- Atlast it was his turn to be called up. 20, Pierre, the elder announced. Jonas sat up in shock. They skipped me. He thought. He looked at Pierre who looked back at him with a confused face. Pierre stood up and walked on stage, just as the other twelves had. Jonas thought it was a mistake at first, but elders never make mistakes. He waited until Pierre was fone, hoping they would go back to him and say it was a mistake, but the ceremony continued without him being called.

- At the end of the ceremony, the elder began to speak. She apologised for the anxiety she caused and waited for everyone to accept her apology. She then called Jonas, number 19 up to the stage. Jonas got up and started walking, with an uneasy feeling in his stomach. He had practiced how he would walk up to the stage, with a tall, strong, confident stride, but that had changed since the mishap. He walked up with his head down, thinking about what would happen to him on stage.
