  • This shows the path that African Americans went on to gain equality. On this path they had self-reflecting time and time to think about what they need to gain equality.
  • On this path to equality, African Americans have time for self-realization and really analyze their obsicles/problems.
  • We need to get involved in politics.
  • We need to get higher education!

  • This represents how when blacks were granted their freedom they were excited because they thought that came with equality. Although that ended up not being the truth and they still did not have equality.

  • In this scene of the text Dubois flashes back to a time when he was younger when he attempted to give a white girl a valentines day card and she rejected him. He is now realizing that she rejected him because of his race.

  • This represents how society thought that blacks should be content with working labor jobs only and should not feel the need to get an education. Whites told them that they don't need an education.
