- Thebes is suffering as if it is cursed.The people turn to Oedipus for help.
- No I am not, how can I be.
- You are the killer!
- Apollo commands that they find Laius's killer.The murder of the king is what has brought misfortune.
- They once told me they weren't my real parents but the denied and said whoever told me that was a liar.

- Information about the killer will hurt both Teiresias and Oedipus directly.
- If there was more than one attacker as the witness says then I am cleared.
- Teiresias says Oedipus is the killer and is living in shame with his family. But Oedipus is unaware of this, knowing nothing.
- The king and queen of Corinth are Oedipus's parents, so he thinks. They tell him that people who said that he is not their son are lying. Oedipus always suspected they were not his parents. So he leaves when he is told by Apollo he will kill his father and marry his mother. That's when he travels to Thebes.
- If the witness says there was more than one attacker, then Oedipus is cleared. They wait for the witness that was with the king when he died.
