- I hate Othello but will pretend to be his friend
- Act 1 Scene 3
- Othello slept with my wife so I will ruin his marriage and his life. I must keep using the foolishRodrigo to pursue my plans.
- Act 2 Scene 3
- You're fired for misconduct!
- In Venice, the Rodorigo, an unsuccessful suitor to Desdemona, is persuaded by Iago to help Othello. Iago has been passed over for promotion by Othello, in favour of the inexperienced Cassio. Iago tells Rodorigo that he hates Othello but will pretend to love him while plotting his downfall.
- Act 3 Scene 3
- You should give him a second chance
- Does she like Cassio?
- Iago reveals that he will convince Othello that Desdemona and Cassio are having an affair. His bitter grievances include the suspicion that Othello has slept with his wife, Emilia.
- Act 4 Scene 1
- I found this in your room!
- Lago knows that Cassio is alcohol intolerant and purposely encourages him to drink - resulting in a tipsy and quarrelsome Cassio who attempts to attack Roderigo and attacks Montano. Othello breaks the fight andstrips Cassio of his officership.
- Act 5 Scene 2
- Desdemona tells Cassio that she will speak to Othello on his behalf. Iago continues to insinuate that there is something going on between Desdemona and Cassio. Othello begins to have doubts
- Lago and Cassio talk about Bianca, Cassio's lover but Othello is convinced they are discussing Desdemona. Bianca angrily returns the handkerchief printed with Desdemona's design which Lago secretly planted. Othello is fully convinced his wife is unloyal.
- I was right!
- Othello is furious and kills Desdemona, however, it is revealed Lago plotted the entire scheme. Othello is left with eternal guilt and stabs himself.
