Storyboard Text

  • The Pope decided to call for a crusade to defend Constantinople and to liberate the Turks. The people joined the crusade with a great amount of enthusiasm. The crusades slogan was Deus le veult which means God wills it!
  • We are here on the behalf of the byzantine emperor to request assistance of defeating the Turks.
  • Your request has been accepted so we will create a crusade to defeat the Turks.
  • Unfortunately even through their efforts of the second crusade it ultimately failed. Reasons for the failure of the second crusade were the leaders argued and the crusade didn't have enough local support. After the failed crusade the Muslim leader Saladin grew even stronger.

  • I king Louis VII of France with assistance of the German emperor organize the second crusade.
  • Because the three kings of England, France, and Germany ordered the third crusade. Due to this it was named the Crusade of the Kings. The leader of this crusade was Richard I of England who was called Lionheart. Richard I won important victories. He then developed a courteous relationship with Saladin.
  • As kings we order the third crusade!!!
  • Unfortunately the fourth crusade embarrassed the Pope. The crusaders never reached the holy land and looted christian cities along the way. In 1204 the crusaders stormed Constantinople. The smashing of Christian icons, stealing relics, and attacking women lasted for three days.
  • As Pope I am launching the fourth Crusade.
  • The looting of Constantinople resulted in much money lost. The crusaders failed to push out the Muslims out of the holy land. Due to centuries of fighting the Byzantine empire got weakened the protection against the turkish invasions.
  • We will be looting this town for funding.

  • The crusades did end up bringing wealth and trade to European port cities. Italian cities such as Venice and Genoa were always traded by sea.
