  • Today I am going to teach you about the cell theory and who created it. Scientists Hooke, Brown, Schleiden, and Schwann
  • in 1665 Robert Hooke, coined the term cell. He discovered a honeycomb-like structure in a cork slice, using a primitive compound microscope. He saw a bunch of cell walls, which was really dead tissue.
  • after that in about 1833, Robert Brown discovered the nucleus cell in plant cells. This conclusion led to in every cell, not just plant cells, there is a nucleus.
  • in 1838-1839 two German botanists, Matthais Schleiden and Theodor Schwann, came to the conclusion that cells are alive after examining plant and animal cells.
  • in 1855, Rudolf Virchow discovered that cells come from pre-exsiting cells, he was also the first to propose that diseased cells come from healthy cells.
  • all of those led to the three parts of the cell theory. Those are cells are the basic unit of structure and function of living things. Also that all living things are made of cells. Finally, Cells come from pre-exsiting cells.
