To Build a Fire
Storyboard Text
- In the story, To Build A Fire by Jack London, a man travels to the Yukon Territory in order to meet up with his friends at a camp. Unfortunately, he comes unprepared for the bitter cold, but he is careless to think about the risks of the harsh weather ahead.
- The Man starts his journey through the Yukon Territory, and when he realizes that the temperature is fifty degrees below zero, he continues on without thinking about how dangerous it is outside.
- Later in his journey, the Man meets a dog who has instincts and knows how to survive in the wild, whereas the man is arrogant and does not listen to other people's advice.
- As the Man attempts to get passed a frozen lake, the ice cracks and he falls in. His feet get very cold and wet, delaying his journey.
- The Man decides to stop and build a fire to warm his feet, but builds it too close to a tree. The snow on a branch falls on to the fire, putting it out and leaving the man cold. Without any way to keep himself warm, the man chooses to kill the dog in order to stay warm, but fails in doing so, because his hands are too numb.
- In the end, the Man dies because he freezes to death. He eventually regrets his decision to not listen to what other people had told him to do in order to survive in the cold.
