- The Korean War Was a conflict between The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) and The Republic of Korea (South Korea). The war reached international proportions in June 1950 when North Korea, supplied and advised by the Soviet Union, invaded South Korea.
- Berlin Wall
- The Space Race was a 20th Century rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union achieved the first satellite launch into space with Sputnik on October 4th, 1957. But the United States won the race altogether when they put the first man on the moon in 1969.
- Cuban Missile Crisis
- Containment was a United States policy using numerous strategies to prevent the spread of communism abroad. The Truman Doctrine was an American foreign policy whose stated purpose was to counter Soviet geopolitical expansion during the Cold War. The Marshall Plan was an American initiative passed in 1948 to aid Western Europe, in which the United States gave over $12 billion to Western European economies after the end of World War II.
- Vietnam War
- The Berlin Wall was a guarded concrete barrier that physically and ideologically divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989. Construction of the Wall was commenced by the German Democratic Republic on 13 August 1961. The Wall cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany, including East Berlin.
- The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13-day confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union initiated by the American discovery of Soviet ballistic missile deployment in Cuba. The confrontation is often considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war.
- The Vietnam War pitted communist North Vietnam and the Viet Cong against South Vietnam and the United States. The war ended when U.S. forces withdrew in 1973 and Vietnam unified under Communist control two years later. About 58,220 U.S. soldiers died
