- It was the 15th of December, a normal day at Martin Place located in the heart of Sydney's CBD where the Lindt Cafe was packed with chocolate craving customers and Josh Peterson was just starting off his day.
- Josh was the supervisor at the Lindt Cafe and was always showing the most warmest hospitality towards his customers.
- Hello, my name is Josh, and welcome to the Lindt cafe. Whenever you're ready call me over and I'll take your order
- Josh always made sure that the shop was safe, running smoothly and that there weren't any unsatisfied customers.
- No problems sir, I'll make you a new one
- My hot chocolate is very cold!!!
- Josh was feeling very warm and happy today, so he came over to greet the customer that was sitting at the table.
- Hello, what would you like to order today?
- The customer got up and said to Josh in a calm tone.
- Lock all of the doors. I have a shotgun in my bag.
- Josh rushed over and locked all of the doors then the person keeping hostages told them to hold up a flag.
- After the flag was put up against the window, a member of the public saw this and called police and a 150 metre exclusion zone was created for safety purposes.
- Then later, snipers were setup from the building across of the cafe.
- Then after the snipers were in position, the side entrance of the building was blocked off by police.
- When all units of the police were in possession then communication between the person keeping the hostages inside and the police.
- Let the hostages go. We have you surrounded!!!
- Whilst the police were talking with the person keeping hostages, Josh made a break for the back door and escaped, whilst the others were still in the cafe.
- Yes I'm free!!!
- As Josh escaped through the back, the police told him to talk to them and explain what was going on.
- The guy inside is getting very angry and if you don't act soon, people are going to die!!!
- After the police finished talking with the man keeping hostages, there was no progress being made and the man was only getting angrier.
- You get up, NOW!!!
- So the police had to take matters into their own hands and gun the man down.
- 3!!!
- 2!!!
- On 3 we charge in. Ready. 1!!!
- By the end of the count down the police rushed in the cafe spraying bullets everywhere, whilst eventually shooting down the man keeping the hostages captive, but in the act bullets have ricocheted and hit two hostages which ended up ending their lives in the shooting.
