One day while, I was in my grandma‘s garden, she dug up a yucky worm. I said throw it away please as she look horrified. She then said, would you throw away your friends. I said angrily “you can’t be friends with a worm“.
Yes you can watch grandma said as she put the worm down. The worm created a tunnel and disappear in a couple of seconds. Grandma explained that they are design so wiggled so they cam move through the soil.
Then, I asked grandma an important question. I asked what do they eat. Grandma said that worms eat things like flowers, fruit dead insects. They especially like to come up above ground during the night to find food.
Grandma pointed at the flower bed and said look could you see It. I saw a weird curly worm among the flower. Worms' poop helps fertilize the soil where the plants grow. This makes plants grown big and strong. Grandma said this one of the reasons why worms are our friends. They helped us recycle in a way..
Grandma said it is not just a poop that they are so important to us and plants. They create tunnels which in turn helps loosen the soil. This route could stretch out and allow air and rain water to enter the tunnels and help the soil.
Grandma explained that different animals love tasty worms. For example, birds, moles badgers, frogs hedgehogs and foxes and foxes eat them for snacks. She also mentioned that if you cut them in half, they just grow the other part back. Grandma look at me and said worms are just part of the cycle of life.
