Storyboard Text

  • Hello Aco. I don't feel very well today, due to my swelling legs and rashes around it.
  • Hi Mr. Swanson. By the way, my name is Aco and I will be your attending medical consultant. How are you and how may I help you?
  • Well, I went out last weekend for hiking with my dog in a grassy area in the forest nearby our place.
  • Then I think I was bitten by an insect.
  • Oh! Let me see. What exactly happened to you and how did you get them?
  • It's a small, black insect that looks like a spider.
  • Oh, that's bad. Can you tell me what did the insect look like?
  • I feel feverish, tired, and I have headache. Also, I feel numb on my legs and my hands.
  • Is it so, Aco? Tell me, is this a contagious disease?
  • Based on your description of the insect, I think it's an infected tick that bit you. And based on your existing condition and from where you had been, it's possible that you incur a disease called Lyme disease or Borrelia burgdorferi.
  • Lyme disease is not a contagious disease. It's curable, so you don't have to worry.
  • Do you have any other symptoms which you are feeling at the moment, apart from those rashes and swelling?
  • I have been feeling these for more than a week now, and it's getting me weaker each day.
  • You are leading to a late-stage of the disease, good thing you came today for a check up. I will be giving you an antibiotics for the treatment and recommendations for your nutrition to help you recover quickly and improve your immunity.
  • How long have you been feeling these symptoms and let me know how severe it is for you?
  • For your nutrition, try to eat gluten-free foods, low sugar/ carbohydrates diet, and consume food that are rich in vitamins. Please avoid dairy intakes and refined sugar.
  • That's great! I appreciate these information you have given me. I will share them to my community. Thank you again, Aco!
  • Thanks, Aco. Can you tell me how to prevent this from happening again in the future?
  • To prevent from infection, wear long pants to avoid tick bites, monitor children or pets to keep away from ticks, use insect repellents, and make your surrounding unfriendly for the ticks to grow.
  • You're welcome, Mr. Swanson. I wish you get well soon! Please feel free to contact me anytime. Happy to help!
  • There is no vaccine available for Lyme disease. The best way to prevent the condition is to be aware of the risks when you visit areas where ticks are found and when bitten by a tick to quickly remove them.
