- A downcast atmosphere was set as Albert and Joey embraced their last moments together.
- I promise that I will be back for you Joey.
- Despondent and disheartened Albert is informed that there is no possible way for Joey and him to be together, now that his father and Captain Nicholls settled an agreement.
- Surely there's another way.
- I'm afraid not Albert Narracott. I'm sorry young man, regulations. Until you get a bit older and is ready to join us, Joey will be in good hands. You've done a fine job on him, you should be proud.
- Hopeful and optimistic, Albert opens the idea of him joining other soldiers and Joey in the army, but Captain Nicholls instantly closes that thought down.
- Joey is my horse. He's my horse and always will be, no matter who buys him. I can't stop my father from selling him, but if Joey goes with you, I go. I want to join the army and be with him.
- As much as I like the spirit, you're too young - you can't come along. Remember, this is real battles we're talking about. Not only that, but your father needs your help to run the farm; it can't run itself.
