- In the exposition Ponyboy walks out of a movie. While he is walking out if the movie he is talking about how the greasers and the socs are rivals. He also talks briefly about the gang members. While he is walking out he notices a blue mustang driving by him. They stop beside him and they jump him.
- Climax
- Ponyboy walks into his house after falling asleep in a lot. He is trying to rush home because he knows he is past his curfew. When he gets home his bother, Sodapop, is sleeping on the couch. His other brother Darry is waiting and looking at him very mad. His brother lectures him about why he should be home early. Without warning, Darry hits him across the face and Ponyboy runs out of the house.

- After Ponyboy ran out of the house he went back to the lot and gets Johnny and tells him what happened. They went to Dally's house to get help about the murder of Bob. Dally sends him to the church on Jay mountain in Windrixville. They then hop on a train and head to Jay mountain. When they get there they stay there for a while and then go back to get some things. When they return to the church, it is on fire and Johnny, Dally, and Ponyboy are all hurt. They then head to the hospital.
- Resolution
- After Ponyboy gets back from the hospital he is informed that there is going to be a rumble. He is getting ready and is very excited. Him and his gang are doing flips and stuff of the stairs. When they get to the rumble Dally shows up. Ponyboy gets a concussion when another soc kicks him right in the head. After the rumble is done Dally takes Ponyboy to the hospital where Johnny is. When they get there they talk to Johnny and johnny says to Ponyboy, "Stay gold" and he dies.
- When Johnny dies Dally is very upset and mad. He runs out of the hospital and hits the wall. Ponyboy gets really worried about him. Out of anger Dally goes and robs a grocery store. He calls the gang to come and help him. When they get there the cops are already there telling Dally to give the stuff he stole back. Dally pulls out his not loaded gun. The cops get threatened and they shoot him and he dies.
- After Dally and Johnny died the gang was smaller than ever. All that was left was Two-Bit, Steve, Ponyboy, Sodapop and Darry. When Ponyboy gets the book from Johnny he notices that there is a note to him and dally. Ponyboy can not give the note to Dally because he died. But the note said, "find something to love." Ponyboy's note says "stay gold."
