- Hi I'm Dorothea Dix your new Sunday school teacher, even though your in jail you still get an education.

- We get put in chains and get abused just and I'm mentally ill I need help I cant be here.
- oh my goodness I cant believe that the mentally don't have there own hospital this is madness don't worry I will try to help you!
- I'm so glad that buy me, putting the mentally ill in there correct facilizes I was able to help many mentally ill people. 
- How did you help the people like me?
- Once I saw the condition you were in I made a report to Massachusetts state legislature and, eventually reports to other states to they all opened up new Hospitals for the mentally ill with the correct care this time.
- About Dorothea Dix
- I worked as a Sunday school teacher in Massachusetts in a Jail. I noticed  that there were very bad conditions for the mentally ill in these prisons and I saw that the only people in jail were only in there for small things like debt, I was devoted to making the lives of these mentally ill people better. I visited hundreds of jails.
- What changed after the reform?
- After Dorothea created her reports many state lawmakers created public asylums. They also made a special justice system for kids who got in trouble. Dix's work banned people from cruel punishment such as branding. It made significant changes in our society. After Dorothea died  lawmakers stopped putting debtors in prison. Dorothea led reformers to believe that they could make significant changes in out society and some did.
