- Tom and Myrtle take Nick to the place that they stay together whenever Tom comes to visit Myrtle. The author gives us a brief detail of what it looks like "Under Doctor Eckleburg's persistent stare. The only building in sight.. small block of yellow brick... the edge of a waste land"(Fitzgerald 24).The author uses words like waste and small to let the reader use imagery to imagine what Wilsons shop looks like.
- Nick was just about to leave Gatsby's party. When he walked outside he saw, "A new coupe... the sharp jut of the wall accounted for the detachment of the wheel" (Fitzgerald 53). The author allows the readers to use imagery to imagine the coupe without a wheel and also shows us an example of reckless disregard for others.
- As Gatsby and Daisy are driving back home Myrtle runs out into the road. In the book it says, " She rushed out into the dusk, waving her hands and shouting...'death car' as the newspapers called it"( Fitzgerald 137). The author uses diction when he has the newspaper call the car the "death car", this gives the reader a better idea about the opinions on the incident.
