  • Exposition
  • That's what it looked like. I didn't hear any crash, though.
  • I'll go see if other streets have power.
  • What was that? A meteor?
  • Maple Street
  • Honey, the power in the stove is off!
  • Conflict
  • Aliens! They're aliens! One of us is an alien!
  • Calm down, Tommy. There are no aliens.
  • Maybe he is right...
  • Rising Action
  • No! It's Steve with his ham radio from space!
  • My car won't start!
  • You! Your car was the only one to start! You must be the alien!
  • *Car starts after short delay*
  • This story takes place in Maple Street, U.S.A. A meteor flies overhead. Townspeople begin to discuss the matter, just as the power goes out.
  • Rising Action
  • That must be the alien!
  • You killed Pete Van Horn!
  • One of the kids, Tommy, begins to spread rumors that there are aliens from outer space in the meteor, and that they sent someone down ahead of them. One of them is an alien, or so he says.
  • Climax
  • Townspeople begin to accuse each other of being aliens. The beginning of the hysteria that will take over the town starts with a simple car turning on.
  • Resolution
  • So, this pattern always stays the same?
  • Charlie, seeing a dark figure in the road, takes Don’s shotgun and kills the figure. After realizing it was Pete Van Horn, the townspeople turn on Charlie who killed the poor messenger.
  • As suspicion rose, many people fought and yelled and became overrun with fear and prejudice. They attacked one another begged for mercy, looked for hiding spots and planned mass destruction. The townspeople had become monsters.
  • All the aliens had to do was turn off some of their cars and power for a while, and they will destroy themselves. After all, once the power went out, monsters were due on Maple Street.
  • Yes. and we will go to each town and do the same thing. To the next one, and the next, and the next...
