  • Okay, class! Your assignment for today is to research about the ancient city of Mesopotamia!
  • That’s cool, I’ve never heard about that. Anyways, I found out about 2 major events in Mesopotamia. One of those events was in 3200 BCE, when the first writing form, Cuneiform, was developed. Another important event was the conquest of Babylon, as it incorporated Mesopotamia into many other large empires, like Persia.
  • While you guys talked, I found out some important people who came from Mesopotamia. The first one is Sargon, as he made the first postal system.
  • His daughter, Enheduanna, was also an important person, as she was the first named author in history, as a priestess who wrote to the gods.

  • That’s cool, I’ve never heard of that. Anyways, I found out about 2 important events in Mesopotamia. One of those events was in 3200 BCE, when the first writing form, Cuneiform was developed.
  • Anyways, the Mesopotamian government was led by priests. This was because they would communicate with the gods.
  • Either
  • Either way, we can still research the topic online.
  • So it was basically a simpler monarchy with less people in the government? That’s neat.
  • That seems like a good idea.
  • I’ve heard about Mesopotamia before, but only about their government.
  • Same, but I’ve only heard about their social structure and where their society was.
  • However, in later years, the government was led by kings as they were thought be to appointed by god himself.
  • And I’m guessing the lower class was filled with poor farmers, similar to peasants? That’s pretty similar to other societies.
  • That’s cool. I heard that the rivers also helped with transportation back then as well.
  • Also, the geography of Mesopotamia really helped the development of themselves as a society. This is because they were located by 2 rivers.
  • That’s cool. Anyways, the Mesopotamian society was split into 4 parts, being royalty, upper class, middle class, and lower class.
  • The upper class would usually work as accountants, architects, or government officials. The middle class kept the city functioning, working as merchants and fishers.
  • Yeah, that could work.
  • Royalty would rule over the city states of Mesopotamia, and would execute important duties.
  • Yeah, they did help with transportation.
  • These rivers really helped them grow as a society, as they would flood when the mountain ice melted, leaving lots of fertile soil for agriculture.
