  • Canada Demographic Transition Model Storyboard (5 Stages)
  • STAGE 1
  • I know my little babies, but we don't have the medical supplies or knowledge to help you.
  • Mommy!!! We really don't feel well, I think we are sick again!
  • Sorry kids but we need to get to work, these crops won't grow themselves! After all, we are in the agriculture revolution!
  • Thank god for this industrial and medical revolution. Now I can safely give birth, and raise yet another healthy baby due to all these major advancements.
  • STAGE 2
  • I know! Basic healthcare is wonderful isn't it? I am delivering so many babies everyday, the work here never stops!
  • Arber KazaziCGW4UOctober 28, 2021
  • STAGE 3
  • In which aisle can I find the contraceptives? With both night school and my new job, me and my husband plan on having only 2 kids, so we can't be taking any risks!
  • You are not alone! We have had so many customers purchasing contraceptives recently. Thanks to the improved status of women and economic conditions, we are really shifting towards smaller families.
  • Stage 1 - Pre-Transition/High Stationary: Both birth rates and death rates are at an extreme high, and quite balanced, meaning very little change in total population. There was a major reliance on children to be apart of the family workforce (farming), however, infant mortality rates were very high due to insufficient maternal/healthcare systems. Ultimately, families felt forced to have several babies hoping some can survive and assist with work.
  • STAGE 4
  • Now that we have moved to the city, I really think we should consider selling our car. After-all, we are so highly developed and have incredible transportation systems to use instead! I am a huge fan of these economic advancements
  • Stage 2 -Early Transition/Expansion: Birth rates remain very high (again for work purposes), however, due to improvements in technology, medical care, sanitation, nutrition, etc, death rates rapidly decrease. As a result, the total population rises significantly. Modernization, specifically the industrial and medical revolution, play a major part of this stage; and not until this revolution does Canada transition from stage 1 to 2.
  • STAGE 5 (Prediction)
  • We are getting so old darling, and I seem to never see young people around anymore...
  • Well, the population of Canada is in fact aging honey. Additionally, due to the record low birth rates in recent decades, our population is even beginning to steadily decline!
  • Stage 3 - Late Transition/Expansion: As a result of improved economic conditions, coupled with a major increase in women's status and education, birth rates decrease. With the same advancements as stage 2 (medical care, sanitation, etc), death rates steadily decrease, all culminating in a slower pace of population growth. Stage 3 in Canada sees an increase in female involvement, and the ease of access to contraceptives which leads the transition from bigger to smaller families.
  • Stage 4 - Post Transition/Low Expanding: Natural increase/population growth finally stabilizes as birth rate and death rate are both low. Canada now has strong and developed economies, educated citizens, strong healthcare systems, family planing, movement of people from rural to urban areas, and further improved opportunities for women. Overall, these economic and social advances allow for ideal population growth and reduced family sizes in comparison to stages prior.
  • The extra cash would help too in this expensive city!
  •
  • Stage 5 - Declining: In the fifth and final stage, Canada experiences a simultaneously aging and decreasing population as the death rate becomes higher than the birth rate. Canada is still highly developed with a prosperous economy; and this combination is the main force behind such low birth rates.
