  • Within this Video Mayim Bialik does a great job describing the aspects of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. However, there is a small piece of her statement that we must correct.
  • While she correctly describes descriptions of what Obsessions and Compulsions are individually, her statement of requiring both for a diagnosis of OCD is incorrect.
  • It is important to understand that the two aspects of OCD are often conjoined when speaking of the disorder
  • In conclusion, even though Mayim Bialik did a nice job describing the differences between obsessions and compulsions, it is important to highlight that according to the DSM-5-TR a person does not need both symptoms to be diagnosed with OCD. This minor detail is important to clarify so that misinformation is not spread about OCD.
  • Although some people with OCD have both obsessions and compulsions, the criterion from the DSM-5-TR states, you only need to have one or both of these symptoms to be properly diagnosed.
