  • 9 ( x + 12 ) = 22x + 56
  • For this equation, x The first supplier charges 9 dollars per package with a 12 shopping fee per package. This gives us our first part of 9 ( x + 12 ) x= the amount of packages bought. For the second supplier, they wish for 22 dollars per package with a one time 56 dollars one time fee. This gives us the equation of 22x + 56. Adding these 2 equations together will get us 9 ( x + 12) = 22x + 56.

  • 9 ( x + 12 ) = 22x + 56
  • 9x + 108 = 22x + 56
  • -13x + 108 = 56
  • -108
  • -108
  • -22
  • -22
  • x = 4
  • -13x = -52
  • Now we use distributive property. If x doesn't hold a value, it'll always be 1x. 9 times 1x = 9x. 12 times 9 = 108. This changes our equation to 9x + 108 = 22x + 56. Now, we need to combine like terms together. We will need to get 22 over to 9. To do this we need to cancel out 22. 22 minus 22 equals 0, canceling out. Now, we will use the same number with the same use of operations needed to cancel out the other variable to either add or subtract on to the uncanceled out variable. These operations are called opposite operations. This would be 9 - 22 which would equal -13x. As for the integers, we would also have to do opposite operations. Lets go ahead and cancel out the 108 by subtracting 108. We will then subtract 108 from 56 leaving us with -52. Our equation is now -13x = -52. Again, to cancel out 13, we would need to divide by -13. Then we will go ahead and divide -52 by -13. As taught, 2 negatives equal a positive in multiplication and division. Then we will go ahead and get 4.

  • Now that we found its equal spot, lets compare. The second supplier would be the better choice for less than 4 packages and the first supplier would be less for more than 4 packages. Obviously since its a business, I'll be using the first supplier. Thank you for coming on my journey!
