  • Sleep Paralysis is when you can't move any part of your body. It occurs before you fall asleep or as you wake up from sleep. Sleep Paralysis affects an estimated 30% of people around the world. It is also a type of Parasomnia (Cleveland Clinic).
  • Sleep Paralysis feels like fear, panic, and helplessness. At the end of an episode, most people are left confused, as their bodies regain movement. An episode can last anywhere from a couple of seconds to 20 minutes (Cleveland Clinic).
  • National Library of Medicine says that the earliest written account of Sleep Paralysis and hallucinations was by a Dutch Physician Isbrand Van Diemerbroeck. He theorized that the compression of the spine and brain when laying down was the cause of the paralysis.
