Lets start with Grains; some grains include, bread, bagels, noodles, and rice. When you consume these grains eating whole grains has many benefits, including a lower risk of diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.
But watch out for refined grains because growing body of research shows that choosing whole grains and other less-processed, higher-quality sources of carbohydrates, and cutting back on refined grains, improves health in many ways.
A growing body of research says to eat 5 servings of fruits and veggies every day. While nutrition is a young science and there are ~plenty~ of things still up for debate, experts are pretty clear that getting your five-a-day is seriously beneficial. Eating fruits and vegetables helps lower your risk of chronic diseases, as they provide a plethora of health-helping antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.
Next I'll talk about fruits and veggies, some fruits are bananas, and kiwis. Some Vegetables are broccoli squash and carrots. Now make sure the fruits and veggies you are eating are the real ones. Lots of companies use additives to make the food "Better". But the truth is that when they add those extra things, it poisons the food.
Like other animal-based foods, milk, yogurt and cheese are considered high-quality sources of protein because they contain all essential amino acids, which our bodies cannot make and which we need to get through our food. In comparison, most plant-based milk alternatives are lacking in one or more essential amino acids (soymilk is one exception to this).
Dairy foods like low-fat or fat-free milk, yogurt and cheese are fundamental to good nutrition. Eating a balanced diet with a variety of foods to get essential nutrients is important to maintain healthy gut and immune function and optimize overall wellness for now and the future.
Making decisions on healthy eating choices are hard sometimes, you never really know if your source is right or if the food you eat is apart of a healthy balanced meal.
The best you can do is follow the my plate food diagram, it gives you a real idea of what you should be eating on a daily basis. Also make sure you get others involved if you notice that your schools food choices aren't well balanced.
