Agamemnon and Achilles are two of the most-known characters in all of Greek Mythology, but not all that important to the Odyssey. This scene connects many important characters in Greek Mythology, while also giving insight on how the underworld works.
"Son of Peleus, great godlike Achilles! Happy man, you died on the fields of Troy. a world away from home, and the best of Trojan and Argive champions died around you, fighting for your corpse." (24.38-41).
Odysseus and his dad meet for the first time, and both men get emotional. This scene shows how much both men love each other, and Odysseus goes through everything to live and finally meets his father.
"Father- I am your son- myself, the man your seeking." (24.359).
This scene is important because Athena shows that she is different from the other gods, as she starts to care about mortals, unlike Zeus.
"Father, son of Cronus, our high and mighty king, now let me ask you a question...tell me your secrets hidden in your mind. Will you prolong the plan, the cruel fighting here or hand down pacts of peace between both sides?" (24.521-526).
