  • Saul's Development as a Hockey Player Chapters 24-30
  • "I'd take the stick and nudge one turd out of the heap and practice moving it back and forth, stickhandling"
  • "I practiced until I could feather the steel through each of those gaps"
  • By: Jason
  • "Those three-on-ones taught me to activate my vision as if it had a switch" (115)
  • Saul started off his journey as a hockey player with simple stickhandling with a horse turd. It was his first taste of the work required to play like the other boys.
  • I became a bird. An ungainly bird at first, but a creature of the air nonetheless
  • Saul's love for hockey was so strong that he managed to find a way to practice during the summer, thus allowing him to continue to practice and develop as a hockey player
  • "The higher level of play with these bigger and better teams did not stall me. Instead, it pushed me to greater heights" (111)
  • As his training continues, Saul learns to better harness his gift of the seer. He can activate his gift whenever he wants granting him a clear vision amongst the chaos of the game
  • Saul's development switches from stickhandling to skating. Saul's thoroughly enjoys the experience. The wings and clouds represent that Saul is metaphorically flying to new heights as a player when he skates.
  • As Saul continues to play hockey, he consistently improves at the game as well. The image shows Saul being powered up with new energy because his skill level increases at a rapid rate.
