Storyboard Description

Alina Branzan Period 4 Day 2

Storyboard Text

  • The workers at NASA are trying to conduct a plan to bring human life to Mars. They are currently doing research to find out if there are life forms on Mars and if there is water on the Red Planet.
  • Land 2 Astronauts by 2024Find water and develop water systems Get candidates to become colonizers
  • Mission to Mars
  • REASONS THE HUMAN RACE NEEDS TO GET TO MARS:
  • The human race will eventually need to become a multi-planetary species because Earth will eventually not be enough for the population. More land is starting to get underwater. Global warming rates have significantly gone up over the past few years and if nothing changes we will eventually need a Plan B planet to keep our population thriving. Diseases are quickly spreading and we need a place to get away from this spread.
  • FACTORS THAT MAKE MARS A FUTURE HABITABLE PLANET
  •
  • Mars has a canyon system that is believed to be carved out by water by many scientists. Scientists also speculate that Mars was once warmer. They believe that water exists in the form of ice under the Earth's surface. Mars has seasons just like Earth and temperatures can warm up to a comfortable 20 degrees celsius. Mars is one of the only planets that have enough raw materials to support life and whole human civilization.
  • I have been doing research on Mars for a while now but tomorrow I am going to go to Mars. I will eventually develop an action plan to help future colonizers conquer the challenges they will face.
  • Mission to Mars Research
  • 160 days later....
  • STEP 1
  • from the research I did from the articles I read prior to seeing Mars in person. The trip was very long and hard for just one person, so transportation may not be able to carry the colonizers the distance to Mars. I've also learned that many human bodies cannot survive on Mars for such a long amount of time. Yikes! People can become depressed from not being with their families and their families may not be able to earn money with their family member gone.
  • Wow! I am happy I am on the moon safe and away from Mars. I already know that there are several challenges that scientists at NASA have to tackle.....
  • Basic needs like food and water may not be able to be stored in space for a long time. There may not be enough money or people to kick start the mission. Astronauts may not stay fit in space without exercising and they not be able to get fresh air. People will begin to experience health issues if they stay in Mars for long. Scientists need to find another way to get water and food. Humans cannot forget anything at home because of how long it takes to get to Mars. The trip to Mars may be one-way and the radiation levels in the atmosphere propose a fatal threat.
  • After the journey to Mars and my research notes, I figured out a lot more challenges than what I figured out from the trip.
  • STEP 1 CONT.
  • I think that the main issue with the mission to Mars is that it is too expensive so the underlying problem should be going into depth about that. The underlying problem should be that: Because the equipment you need for Mars is very expensive, in what ways might we plan to get the money required for the trip, in order to buy the materials to build a sustainable rocket and equipment to further prepare astronauts to go to Mars if a trip to Mars would occur in 2025.
  • Now, after I have identified all of the challenges. I need to find an underlying problem. The underlying problem should consist of a condition phrase, a stem and key phrase, the purpose, and the parameters.
  • STEP 2
  • People can face time with their loved ones and NASA can give money to their families. The colonizers could stock up on non-perishable food and NASA can raise money for the trip. The workers at NASA can use persuasion techniques to get people to go to Mars. The colonizers could get good eating habits so that they can be healthy. They can wear space suits with oxygen masks and not stay on Mars for too long. Engineers can create man-made domes and water systems. They can modify the soil and bring a lot of supplies. NASA can try and form something that mimics an ozone layer. They should also plan ahead for medical emergencies.
  • Now, I have to develop solutions to the 16 main challenges I discovered in step 1. I think that we could use advanced technology to help bring astronauts to Mars. The astronauts should get training so their bodies could be in space for long.
  • STEP 3
  • Now I need to come up with specific proposals for the problems and identify the who, what, how and why of them. New rockets with a high capacity level built by NASA engineers with advanced technology and will be built for the planned 2032 mission to Mars. This will help carry the astronauts efficiently to Mars. Fitness plans for astronauts will begin five years before the mission begins to ensure that humans stay fit on Mars and that their bodies will withstand the conditions. Data plans will be put in place and there will be a hotspot in the rocket so that way astronauts can communicate with their families where-ever they are. A plan will be put in place where all families will receive their astronauts monthly salary even when they are in space.
  • Donations from those who are willing to help will guarantee food for astronauts. An online donation will be put into place so that astronauts will be guaranteed food. Benefits will be given if the astronaut goes to Mars. Healthy food and space suits will be provided for astronauts. Space suits will be shortened to a week on Mars to avoid detrimental health issues. Construction on the domed territories will be formed after one year. Water systems will be put in place.
  • STEP 3 CONT.
  • STEP 4
  • Now I have to select and create criteria statements for each of the five main solutions.
  • Criteria and Solution Statements1. Which solution will be the best to transport the astronauts to Mars?- Advanced technology will help transport the astronauts to Mars. 2. Which solution will be the best to ensure that astronauts are fit enough to go to Mars?- Making sure that astronauts are fit and have the right training will ensure that they can go to Mars.3. Which solution will the least sufficient in guaranteeing that Mars colonists will be able to see their loved ones.
  • STEP 4 CONT.
  • Criteria and Solution Statements Cont. 4. Which solution will be the best that NASA would have some sort of payment system to pay families of astronauts while they are in space?- NASA can give some money to families. 5. Which solution will be the most sure that basic needs for human life will be able to stay in space from a sufficient amount of time?- They can stock up on non-perishables.
  • The next step is to create an excel spreadsheet that organizes the solutions from most effective (8) to least effective (1).
  • The most effective solution was that domed territories will be created to make Mars more livable and prevent radiation from hitting the planet. The least effective solution was that training sessions and good eating habits will be carried out in space.
  • STEP 5
  • The last step for Future Problem Solving is to identify the final action plan. The final action plan should put all of the knowledge from the previous steps and tie it all together.
  • It should explain the solution in terms of who, what, how, why, where, and when.
  • STEP 6
  • ACTION PLAN: Underlying Problem: Colonists will experience harmful radiation, temperature, and low oxygen levels.Engineers working in NASA will create domed territories on Mars to prevent humans from not getting enough oxygen, help them avoid radiation and, help them avoid harm from extreme temperatures. The engineers will create domes that mimic an ozone layer. This plan will be carried out by using advanced transportation technology to bring the engineers and materials to Mars. This supports the Key Verb Phrase because it prevents people from experiencing life-threatening circumstances on Mars.
  • STEP 6 CONT.
  • ACTION PLAN CONT:The engineers might run out of material to build the domes or they could experience detrimental problems on Mars while constructing the domes. We could solve these problems by giving them suits to help them avoid the intense temperature and radiation levels. NASA will also provide engineers with more supplies than needed and will constantly check in on Mars to see if all the materials are sufficient. NASA and suppliers will be supporting the plan throughout the project. The families might be scared and apprehensive about allowing the engineers to build the domes and we can resolve this by letting NASA employees check in on the engineers. The action plan will impact the Underlying Problem and the Future Scene by ensuring that when humans colonize Mars, they will not be affected by it’s harming features. In the future scene, it will show people living on Mars safety. The action will have a positive impact on society by giving humans another place to live if Earth explodes, gets overpopulated, etc.
  • STEP 6 CONT.
  • NASA's mission to Mars will be carried out through tackling many difficult challenges. They will need to build shelters to create safe places to live for their colonizers and build a water system to ensure that humans will be able to survive on Mars. The challenge that seems the most difficult to overcome is creating the dome territories. Without the domes, colonizers will have no where to live and therefore the mission to Mars wouldn't even be possible. Human will also face toxic radiation and the only way they can prevent this is by having domed territories. In summation, NASA should have their engineers build domes so that humans can become a multi-planetary species.
