The mine workers were so upset when they were told by their steward that the mine has lost lots of money, but their need were not taken care of at all.
A total of 1,248 miners on strike were wounded and nine were killed.
Even though the strike did not help a raise in wages, it was noted to have been a historical event that catalyzed the Anti-Apartheid Movement.
