Storyboard Text

  • A plague has stricken Thebes, everyone is dying from the plague. We need the king to save Thebes!
  • Do not fear, all of you, for I am with you. I am willing to risk everything for the sake of my people. I have sent my brother-in-law, Creon, to the house of Apollo to ask the oracle how to end this ravaging plague.
  • Oedipus, our beloved king, greatest in the eyes of all, restore this city to safety
  • Who murdered him? How can we find him? We should seek King Laius' murderer and give violent vengeance for the late king.
  • Phoebus said that the plague will end when the murderer of Laius, former king of Thebes, is caught and expelled; the murderer is within the city.
  • The city of Thebes was ravaged by terror. Famine and sickness afflicted the city. Crops for food would not be able to grow. Pregnant women are more likely to miscarry or give birth to dead children. The entire city is a total catastrophe.
  • King Oedipus, the blind Tiresias, I believe, possesses the answers to our questions.
  • The priest and the citizens of Thebes are gathered outside the palace begging Oedipus to take action to lift the plague that threatens to destroy the city. They considered him their savior for he was able to defeat sphinx
  • How dare you say that and go unpunished? You and Creon assassinated King Laius, and blamed me to ensure Creon's kingship! How foolish!
  • You slew the man whose slayer you seek
  • Creon returns, bearing good news to Oedipus, that once the killer of the previous king, Laius, is found, Thebes will be cured of the plague.
  • What exactly was your plan with Tiresias? To gain the crown, you must overthrow me?
  • Go over to Apollo and, if you're right, kill me with not only your vote, but mine as well.
  • Oedipus has promised to solve the mystery of Laius’s death, vowing to curse and drive out the murderer. The people of Thebes advise that Tiresias, the blind prophet, be brought in because it was said that he might know who the murderer is.
  • Tiresias, the wise, should be brought in. This plague must be eradicated as quickly as possible. Whoever this murderer is, he will be exiled for his unjust acts.
  • Tiresias refuses to tell Oedipus what he has seen in his prophetic visions. The king, later on, accused Creon and Tiresias of conspiring against his life of playing a part in Laius's death. Tiresias grows angry and says that Oedipus is the cause of the plague and he is the murderer of Laius.
  • Oedipus threatens Creon for conspiring with the prophet and Creon denies having devised a plan with Tiresias. Creon is willing to die merely to prove his innocence to Oedipus.
