The Japanese Reformation
The Work Of Meji
As told by a sleep deprived high schooler
For many, many years, japan was very isolationist
But as the years went on, Japan was falling behind the rest of the world
Mostly, it wanted no part of what European countries had been doing to the rest of Asia
In other parts of the world, technology and trade had advanced well beyond Japan.
But it was clear that some catching up was to be done
It was nearly undeniable
When Americans showed up in Tokyo Bay to try to re-establish trade with japan for the first time in over two centuries
Japan was far from "Uncivilized" as much of Europe might have argued at the time
And the Daimyo had thrown Japan into a deep civil conflict years prior
But much of the Japanese population believed tradition was more important.
This would come to change
The shogun and the samurai had become more powerful than the imperial family
Like any nation, Japan's sense of nationalism was strong.
