Storyboard Text

  • During my career I’ve had the opportunity to work with different leaders in talented teams that have encouraged my professional development.
  • Based on the habits that Covey established in his book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”, I will compare the leadership that I have with my team and the leadership of my ex boss (Carl) from whom I’ve learned the most.
  • 7
  • Me (Andres)
  • Exboss (Carl)
  • Be proactive. Take action; choose the reaction to any action.
  • In this topic Carl and I have similarities and differences. We both anticipate, propose, develop new projects, and improve the existing ones, instead of waiting until someone asks or before it is too late to act. We seek to give 110% effort to the responsibilities that we have. However in response to certain actions, such as bad news, Carl is usually more energetic, impulsive and even aggressive, different from how I react, since I first try to analyze the situation and then take action.
  • Let´s do it
  • Begin with the End in Mind. Set clear goals.
  • I learned this while working with Carl. Actually, the work scheme I have with my current team is similar to that of Carl. We establish big goals and then break them down into small, defined objectives that we follow up on a weekly basis to review progress.
  • Put First Things First. Priorities, distinguish the urgent from the important
  • !
  • Carl is usually methodical and disciplined, and he can easily distinguish the important from the urgent, and then seeks to make plans according to the priorities he defined. On the contrary, I usually attack on all fronts in a similar way; this can sometimes result in work overload for me and my team, something I must definitely work on.
  • Think Win-Win. Mutual benefits in every relationship
  • Creating long-lasting relationships that have mutual benefits is an aspect that we have in common. We have experienced the benefits that efficient networking and positive associations can provide, for example in new projects or business opportunities.
  • Seek First to Understand, Then to be understood. Build empathetic and constructive personal relationships
  • Begin with the End in Mind. Set clear goals.
  • Carl is reserved in terms of relationships, he has professional relationships and is mainly interested in building relationships only with people with whom he feels affinity. On the contrary, I tend to be more open; I develop empathetic and trustful relationships with all my team, by being interested in their personal concerns, dreams and plans.
  • Synergize. Team work is have more value than individual work
  • Personally I always seek to establish friendly relationships and create bridges and team vision. Carl is more conflictive; he creates alliances but is very jealous and closed with his work and his responsibility. On the contrary, I am open and like to share my knowledge, information and offer any type of collaboration. I believe that work is easier in team than working alone.
  • Sharpen the Saw. Continuous improvement
  • Improve; get out of our comfort area. This is one of the most important things I’ve learned from Carl. Sometimes I doubted of my abilities, but by facing different challenges, I found confidence. This has motivated me to continue Improving and pushing my limits every single day. We both seek to take up new challenges and develop better solutions.
  • Better, faster, stronger
  • I still have a lot to learn and develop regarding my leadership skills. I know I have a great responsibility with my team and I hope to be a guide, not only in the daily work, but also in their own development as leaders.
  • Let´s go
